News Berlin Vote for your Berlin Performance of the Day Last Sunday’s BWM BERLIN-MARATHON winners have been shortlisted for the race’s Performance of the Day, which is voted for by you. Guye Adola, Tigst Assefa, Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner all dominated to win their races but which was performance was the most impressive? Guye Adola Guye Adola ran a perfect race to win for the second time in Berlin. The Ethiopian was part of a three-man group alongside Gemechu Dida Diriba and Selemon Barega who pushed ahead on 30KM before putting the hammer down over the next 5KM where he ran a 14:21 split – his fastest of the race. That pace was too much for the rest of the field and he crossed the line in 2:02:50 – a new PB. Tigst Assefa Only an achilles injury in the final 2KM denied Tigst Assefa a new world record. The Ethiopian had left the field for dead, crossing halfway in 1:04:57 and the 40KM mark in 2:03:00. But a cruel leg injury reduced her to limping through the final stages. Astonishingly, she still clocked 2:11:04 – a course record and third-fastest time in history. Marcel Hug Few people like Berlin more than Marcel Hug who raced away to his 11th victory in the German capital. Hug was inducted into the race’s hall of fame last year and the Swiss put in another all-time performance, obliterating the field to win by almost six minutes. It was his fourth Major win of the season. Catherine Debrunner The pre-race billing was for a three-way battle between this season’s Majors winners Catherine Debrunner, Manuela Schär and Eden Rainbow-Cooper. In reality, it was a procession as Debrunner flew off the start line and was more than two minutes ahead at the 10KM mark. Schär and Rainbow-Cooper could not live with their Swiss opponent who eventually won by a staggering margin of 6:52.
